of a few of the signs and buildings along the way out of town.\u00a0 Joyce drove, Gary shot!<\/p>\n<p>Joyce wanted to get a geocache at the visitor&#8217;s center located near the old train station.\u00a0 Success!\u00a0 Speaking of trains, have I mentioned how many we see out here in the West?\u00a0 It seems like no matter where we are on Route 66 we see a train about every half hour.\u00a0 All BNSF.\u00a0 It is absolutely amazing how many trains there are to be seen and how long they are,\u00a0 Most have at least 4 engines to pull the load, but today we traveled alongside one that had 4 engines up front and 3 more in the middle working really hard to move a train that had to be 2 miles long westward.\u00a0 Warren Buffet must be really happy with the train freight business!<\/p>\n<p>Okay, today was special in a couple of ways.\u00a0 Number one was the amount of travel we did on the 1931 alignment of the route.\u00a0 We had 3 stretches which today are considered primitive roads (can you say dirt roads?).\u00a0 The first section was 4 miles long, the second 3.5 and the third 2 miles in length.\u00a0 These were between Bellemont and Williams, AZ.\u00a0 Glad to have AWD and higher ground clearance!\u00a0 The high spot on the historic Route 66 was on the second of these sections.<\/p>\n<p>In Williams we were out taking photographs and were greeted by a local named John and his brother Jim.\u00a0 They offered some great advice for taking the old alignment to Kingman.\u00a0 And boy were they right.\u00a0 We saw our first Burma Shave signs along the way and had an uninterrupted 75 miles on the two lane road at 65 mph with almost not traffic.\u00a0 Much better than I-40W!!\u00a0 We passed through the Indian reservation and saw mostly open range.\u00a0 It&#8217;s a really, really big country when you escape the east coast.<\/p>\n<p>Another highlight was today&#8217;s lunch.\u00a0 Joyce had been waiting for\u00a0the chance to eat at the Snow Cap Diner in Seligman.\u00a0 It was a real treat!\u00a0 Cheeseburgers better than\u00a0 Five Guys and the very best milk shakes!\u00a0 Joyce had chocolate and caramel and I had chocolate and peanut butter.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.rootbeertogo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/20140828_152637.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-attachment-id=\"358\" data-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.rootbeertogo.com\/?attachment_id=358\" data-orig-file=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.rootbeertogo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/20140828_152637.jpg?fit=4128%2C2322&amp;ssl=1\" data-orig-size=\"4128,2322\" data-comments-opened=\"1\" data-image-meta=\"{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;2.2&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;SCH-I545&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;1409239597&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;4.2&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;64&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0.016666666666667&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;}\" data-image-title=\"20140828_152637\" data-image-description=\"\" data-image-caption=\"\" data-large-file=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.rootbeertogo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/20140828_152637.jpg?fit=474%2C267&amp;ssl=1\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-358\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.rootbeertogo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/20140828_152637.jpg?resize=300%2C168&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"20140828_152637\" width=\"300\" height=\"168\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.rootbeertogo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/20140828_152637.jpg?resize=300%2C168&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.rootbeertogo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/20140828_152637.jpg?resize=1024%2C576&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.rootbeertogo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/20140828_152637.jpg?w=948&amp;ssl=1 948w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.rootbeertogo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/20140828_152637.jpg?w=1422&amp;ssl=1 1422w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We ate at about 3:15 again and so we needed little for dinner.\u00a0 We also got some nice photos here and another successful geocache find.<\/p>\n<p>Then on to Kingman, AZ where we arrived about 6 PM after driving 180 miles today.\u00a0 To the desert tomorrow!<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>The Nissan dealer finished up the oil change and a small repair to the driver&#8217;s door window around 10:00 AM this morning.\u00a0 The Murano got its first car wash since leaving on August 10th.
