{"id":238,"date":"2014-08-13T23:36:56","date_gmt":"2014-08-14T03:36:56","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.rootbeertogo.com\/?p=238"},"modified":"2014-08-25T23:16:10","modified_gmt":"2014-08-26T03:16:10","slug":"big-river-follow-up","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.rootbeertogo.com\/?p=238","title":{"rendered":"Big River Follow-up"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Well, we left the Times Beach visitor center after successfully finding a cache and going quickly through the museum.\u00a0 Joyce got a Route 66 T-shirt as a souvenir.<\/p>\n<p>One noteworthy thing is the proximity of the I-44 interstate to the old historical route 66.\u00a0 Much of the time we&#8217;re cruising along at a 55 to 60 mph speed and just on the other side of fence\/median are those people who want to whiz along at 70+.\u00a0 As we are interstate averse, we had a much nicer drive.<\/p>\n<p>But along the way we were in more remote areas and passed through the following towns\/villages.<\/p>\n<p>Pacific where we saw an abandoned truck stop that was not very interesting.\u00a0 Just down the road we passed\u00a0a nicely kept motel, The Sunset Motel, but it was no longer operating.<\/p>\n<p>We passed through the following seeing nothing of interest:\u00a0 St. Clair, Stanton, Sullivan and\u00a0St. Cloud.\u00a0 Then we unexpectedly happened upon the town of Bourbon.\u00a0 There was a beautiful water tower with BOURBON painted on it.\u00a0 Perhaps they keep bourbon in that tank for the citizens of the community to enjoy!<\/p>\n<p>Next up was the town of Cuba.\u00a0 On the way in we spotted the Wagon Wheel Motel.\u00a0 It is currently operating and consists of small stone cabin\/cottages set back from the highway.\u00a0 Next door was the Missouri Hick BBQ restaurant&#8211;also a Route 66 historical establishment.\u00a0 Both photographed quite nicely.<\/p>\n<p>It was in the MO Hick parking lot we decided to phone ahead to the Nissan dealer in Rolla, MO.\u00a0 The Murano is making an unusual humming noise that needs to be check out.\u00a0 Then can see us tomorrow (Thursday) at 8 AM.\u00a0 Hopefully, this will be a simple problem to fix.<\/p>\n<p>Then it was on into town.\u00a0 Cuba has a series of murals on walls in the downtown area.\u00a0 There are about 12 or so and the town is right proud of them.\u00a0 In fact, we were standing on the corner viewing one when a local stopped to hand us a brochure about the murals and a map to find them all.\u00a0 We took their pictures even though the light was bad on half of them and got a Missouri beer at the liquor store on the corner to have later.<\/p>\n<p>Made a stop in Fanning to see the Worlds Largest Rocking Chair where we also found another geocache.\u00a0 The third of the day.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.rootbeertogo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/20140813_170804.jpg?ssl=1\"><img data-recalc-dims=\"1\" loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" data-attachment-id=\"237\" data-permalink=\"https:\/\/www.rootbeertogo.com\/?attachment_id=237\" data-orig-file=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.rootbeertogo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/20140813_170804.jpg?fit=4128%2C3096&amp;ssl=1\" data-orig-size=\"4128,3096\" data-comments-opened=\"1\" data-image-meta=\"{&quot;aperture&quot;:&quot;2.2&quot;,&quot;credit&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;camera&quot;:&quot;SCH-I545&quot;,&quot;caption&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;created_timestamp&quot;:&quot;1407949683&quot;,&quot;copyright&quot;:&quot;&quot;,&quot;focal_length&quot;:&quot;4.2&quot;,&quot;iso&quot;:&quot;50&quot;,&quot;shutter_speed&quot;:&quot;0.0014619883040936&quot;,&quot;title&quot;:&quot;&quot;}\" data-image-title=\"20140813_170804\" data-image-description=\"\" data-image-caption=\"\" data-large-file=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.rootbeertogo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/20140813_170804.jpg?fit=474%2C356&amp;ssl=1\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-237\" src=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.rootbeertogo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/20140813_170804.jpg?resize=300%2C225&#038;ssl=1\" alt=\"20140813_170804\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" srcset=\"https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.rootbeertogo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/20140813_170804.jpg?resize=300%2C225&amp;ssl=1 300w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.rootbeertogo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/20140813_170804.jpg?resize=1024%2C768&amp;ssl=1 1024w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.rootbeertogo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/20140813_170804.jpg?w=948&amp;ssl=1 948w, https:\/\/i0.wp.com\/www.rootbeertogo.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2014\/08\/20140813_170804.jpg?w=1422&amp;ssl=1 1422w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>We arrived in Rolla about 6 PM and decided to have a light dinner of popcorn, cheese &amp;
